Getting ill in Paradise

Getting ill in Paradise

When things don’t start the way they should

I was so excited, 1 more night and Denis and I were getting ready to prepare for our 10 days Singapore trip without kids this time. We were just getting ready to check-in online  ……… and then that dreaded message “sorry for the inconvenience your connecting flight from Marseille to London has been cancelled, the next available flight is tomorrow”.

Annoyance folding all over my face, our 10 days of freedom changed to 9 days!!

Swasti Cottages, Bali

And things always get better at some point… Well until next surprise

Well, we did finally get to Singapore where we were due to catch a flight to Bali. I was so excited, my friend who I had studied with as a student picked us up and we were already making plans for the next few days. There was no time to be jet lagged plus we were meeting my mum and sister for Chinese New Year. This was going to be a night to remember (and it definitely was).

I cannot remember being so sick in my life!! I was thinking maybe it was food poisoning but we all had the same food. I was annoyed, upset and felt guilty as I saw my family sitting around me instead of spending the day exploring. In 2 days we were due to go to Bali and for 2 days I stayed in the bed feeling sorry for myself and others.

Bali, beauty and peace

We did make it to Bali, just about. I was telling my mind I was feeling great although I could hear these horrible rumbling noises and could not stand the sight or talk of food. My husband was quite shocked as he knows me for being a complete foodie.

We stayed in Swasti Cottages in Ubud, they had a very appealing concept of preparing fresh organic food from the garden. One of the staff told me about the Bummi Clinic just a 5 minute walk from our cottage. I went to see them and instantly after hearing my tummy, he let out a big “ahhhhhhhh” the doctor gave me some Chinese herbal capsules. It was amazing how quickly I felt a lfittle relief. Finally I could stand to look and taste this beautiful breakfast that was asking me to eat it!

My strength started to come back so we managed to visit a few places in Bali including

Time for reflection and thoughts

Most importantly though Bali really was a time for reflection and thoughts. My body was telling me to slow down, to take time out, to care and nourish myself. Bali was the perfect place for this as I learnt the power of natural medicine, relaxation, nourishing food and of course a little spa pampering.

Whilst I detoxed, my husband also took his time out by practicing yoga every morning before breakfast and then enjoying the most delicious breakfast. We have plans to return to Bali but this time with the kids and to stay a little longer to really soak in its culture. Watch this space πŸ‘ͺ

  1. I’m sorry you were ill, but its good you listen to your body. Bali is probably one of the best place to get in peace with yourself. Take care Ania
